Children vs. Healthy Food: How To Make Them Get Along - Health - Fitness

How people eat when they are children will determine how healthy they will be when adults.Eating a diet of healthy food can ensure a life filled with vim and vigor as opposed to aches and pains.

Most children will balk at the mere mention of healthy food. The reason they do this is simple. They have been fed a diet of so many refined and processed foods that unless something tastes sweet or fried it's no longer appealing to them.

You can do things when your children are very young to guarantee that they will enjoy healthy food for the rest of their lives. The first step is to not introduce a large number of sugary foods into their diets. This means not buying cookies and snack cakes.

Another easy step to helping your children have a healthy future is to cut out all visits to the fast food outlets. You can make healthy food choices at home that will still allow your children the change to eat French fries and hamburgers without all the added fat. Potatoes are actually a very healthy food but not when they are deep fried. Instead spray the potatoes with a light coating of olive oil, add some spices and bake them in the oven.

In place of hamburgers from the local burger joint consider the healthy food alternative of turkey burgers. You can make these in just a few moments from scratch by using some lean ground turkey. Add some chopped onion and a few spices and grill them up.

Candy is something all children crave but it doesn't exactly fall into the healthy food choice category. You can indulge them from time to time with a small piece of candy or you can introduce something like dried apricots or plump raisins into their diets. These have a natural sugar to them that children love and if they are enjoying a few of these each day they are steering clear of sugar filled treats which means fewer cavities along with less calories.

You can also make your own candies by using a sugar substitute. Many of these products are now so close to the look and feel of sugar that it's virtually impossible to tell them apart. Imagine a caramel coated apple that contains no sugar at all. This is one healthy food that kids will love and parents will enjoy as well.

Healthy food doesn't have to be dull and boring. With a little imagination and a few cookbooks any parent can whip up a healthy menu plan for their child.
