It doesnt look that way. The fast food industry is thriving, even in the bad economy. The Chicago Tribune recently said that McDonalds is recession proof.

As one of only two companies to turn a major profit over the last year (the other being Wal Mart), McDonalds is laughing its way to the bank. In fact, McDonalds plans to open 1,000 new stores this year.

I was driving down Route 95 a few weeks ago and pulled over to use the rest room at Mcdonalds on a Saturday morning (theres a McDonalds conveniently located immediately off almost every exit up and down the full length of Interstate 95).

The parking lot was full, it was standing-room only inside and the lines snaked around into the seating area! Youd think Brad and Angelina were there signing autographs or something. Nope. Just a regular weekend at breakfast-time.

I was shopping in Wal Mart the same week and I almost passed out when I saw (smelled, actually) a McDonalds INSIDE THE WAL- MART! Also, with lines.

Yep. It looks like your friends and familys nagging you to stop eating fast food, and all the messages of the health and fitness industry to get people eating more health food are not working!

Whats the right approach?

Focus on teaching people how to make healthy eating fast, convenient and easy, because those are the reasons people are choosing fast food in the first place.

So whats holding us back from implementing or taking this advice?Well, I think that most people cant get over the ideas that they just cant cook or that cooking is too time consuming or that healthy food tastes like dirt (as if McDonalds is gourmet food!)

That said, Im not going to nag you, scold you or try to scare you out of eating fast food. Im not going to lecture you about health food (not today, anyway). Nor am I going to bad-mouth the fast food restaurants.Im going to lead the new charge by showing you just how easy and convenient it is to eat healthy and nutritious food and make it delicous.

Heres a few meal ideas (for starters) to prove my point.

3-MINUTE APPLE CINNAMON OATMEAL* natural oatmeal (like Quaker old fashioned rolled oats)* natural (unsweetened) applesauce* cinnamon* for protein, serve with scrambled eggs or egg whites on side or stir 1-2 scoops of vanilla protein powder into the oats

I eat this almost every morning. Its faster, easier and cheaper than going to the donut place or getting sausage, cheese, bacon breakfast muffins at the fast food joint! (you dont have to wait in line, either!)

10-MINUTE LAZY PERSONS CHINESE STIR FRY* Brown rice (I like basmati)* frozen oriental vegetables* chicken breast, grilled (try foreman grill)* braggs liquid aminos (or light/lo-sodium soy sauce)

This takes 30 minutes, however, if you get a rice cooker and make a giant batch, you can have your rice on standby for instant eats and this will take less than 10 minutes.

It doesnt get much easier than that. (I like those chinese veggies that come with the little mini-corn-on-the-cobs reminds me of that Tom Hanks Movie, BIG)

2-MINUTE BLACK BEANS AND SPICY SALSA* black beans (15 oz can)* Medium or hot salsa* 1 tbsp extra virgin olive oil* 2 cloves garlic or chopped garlic to taste* salt and pepper to taste

This one takes you all of 2 minutes to make. No cooking required! And its good! Its vegetarian as listed above, but if youre a high-protein muscle-head like me, just add chicken breast or lean ground turkey.

Best part: this is all inexpensive food! Oats, rice, beans doesnt get much cheaper than that - buy your healthy staples in bulk and the cost per serving is probably less than mickey Ds! (yes, even the Value meals)

"It's just a tiny little needle that pricks the skin. Anyone can do it."

Though HCG dieters have some leeway in how they spend their 500 daily calories, they're urged to choose organic meats, vegetables, and fish. Dairy, crabs, alcohol, and sugar are all off limits. A day's meals might consist of coffee and an orange for breakfast; a little tilapia and raw asparagus for lunch; a piece of fruit in the afternoon; and crab, spinach, Melba toast, and tea for dinner. If dieters slip up, they're encouraged to compensate by drinking only water and eating nothing but six apples for 24 hours. That's thought to help squeeze out water weight, a psychological boost to help them get back on track.

"It wasn't that hard to pull off, and I'd do it again in a heartbeat," raved London-based fashion stylist Alison Edmond in February's Marie Claire. "In the end, I lost a total of 25 pounds, ending up at a weight I hadn't been in 10 years." Despite success stories like hers, scientific evidence on the plan is shaky at best. In 1995, researchers analyzed 14 clinical trials on the HCG diet. Only two concluded HCG was any more effective than a placebo at helping people lose weight. And nearly 10 years earlier, a report in the Canadian Medical Association Journal stated HCG has "no value" as a means of managing obesity, and that the diet has been "thoroughly discredited and thus rejected by the majority of the medical community."

Detractors say the hormone isn't some miracle ingredient to weight loss--the restrictive diet is. "If you don't eat, you lose weight," Cohen says. "If HCG truly diminished hunger, it would be a wonderful drug. But if that were the case, why couldn't you just modestly reduce your intake while using it? Why would you have to simultaneously starve yourself?" But believers insist that, thanks to HCG, they can stick to a low-calorie diet without hunger pangs, while losing unwanted fat. They're adamant that HCG is essential to the diet's success. "People are strongly convinced that this hormone will keep them on a 500-calorie diet. And the power of suggestion can be a very strong force," says Cohen.

Of course, the regimen isn't without risks. The hormone is known to cause headaches, blood clots, leg cramps, and temporary hair thinning, constipation, and breast tenderness. The FDA has received at least one recent report of an HCG dieter developing a pulmonary embolism, a potentially fatal blood clot in the lung, says agency spokesperson Shelly Burgess. Yet, the hormone's full risk profile is unknown. "HCG was studied briefly [for weight loss] and found to be ineffective, so we have no idea what its potential risks are," Cohen says. "Do I have data that it causes heart attacks, stroke, or cancer? No, I don't, because we just don't know at this point." While hCG may be safe on its own--the FDA says it's safe as an infertility treatment--pairing it with an extremely low-calorie diet could have unexpected side effects.

Two years ago, Lori Hill, 40, of Salt Lake City, Utah, began a 28-day hCG diet cycle. She says she lost about 26 pounds, including thigh fat, largely without hunger. But she felt ill almost immediately, and by the last week of the diet, Hill--a fit and active soccer referee--couldn't climb a flight of stairs without gasping for breath. The effort made her muscles burn and shake, too. After completing the cycle, Hill regained all the weight she had lost, plus an additional 15 pounds. "I starved myself and threw all my nutrients out of whack," she says. "You're tricking your body into letting you starve, without feeling any major hunger. What you're doing to your body just isn't worth it."

There's no question that 500 calories a day is tantamount to malnutrition--dieters should never dip below 1,200, say experts--and federal dietary guidelines recommend more than three times the amount of calories the diet prescribes for women ages 19 to 30. Moreover, extremely low-calorie diets can cause severe bone and muscle loss, electrolyte imbalances, gallstones, and even death. "I've heard a lot of people say the side effects of this diet are overwhelming," says registered dietitian Keri Gans, a spokesperson for the American Dietetic Association. "And they could start as soon as one day in--you'll start feeling irritated and tired."

To Gans, the regimen is nothing more than a crash diet--and an expensive one at that. A more sensible route to weight loss, she says, is no more mysterious than choosing healthy foods, limiting portion sizes, and exercising. "This is another approach for people who believe there's a silver bullet, but there is no such thing. All this diet does is show you how to restrict and a person can only do that for so long without returning to old habits."

Recipe name: Paleo Chicken/Beef Balls with Special Sauce

You'll need:

(For Chicken/Beef Balls) 400g minced chicken or beef, 1 tsp ground paprika, finely chopped oregano (1 tbs each), finely chopped rosemary and sage (2 tsp each), 1 whole egg, 2 tsp olive oil

(For Gravy) cup of chopped basil, 2/3 chopped tomatoes, 1 tsp of arrow root and tsp of organic kelp granules salt alternative

Directions:

(1) You need a fan-forced oven preheated to 180C.

(2) Now let's make the chicken/ beef balls. All you have to do is put all the chicken/beef ball ingredients in a reasonably sized bowl and combine thoroughly. Shape about 10 - 14 balls. Lay baking paper onto a baking tray and plop the balls on top. Bake for about 30 minutes or so.

(3) Now let's make the sauce! Simmer salt alternative, basil and tomato in a pan for a couple of minutes. Put arrowroot in a cup and add 2 -3 tbs of water. Mix until smooth and then gradually add into the simmering mixture.

Okay time to eat! Plop the tasty balls on a plate and pour the sauce on top. Now let's enjoy this yummy paleo lunch recipe while it's still hot!

To mention some of the benefits of eating healthy would include loss of body fat, a higher level of energy, a more satisfying sleep, more stamina, better skin condition such as smoother skin, less acne, lower risk of heart diseases & strokes, fewer visits to the doctor, lower cholesterol, lower risk of cancer, better mental ability and work performance and a general overall better you.

That is only some of the reasons I can think of, but it is enough to make me want to eat healthy and take more pride in myself.

Simple changes in your diet will make all the difference. You can even eat frozen food that is cheaper. A lot of vegetables come frozen and still retain their goodness. Eat a lot of chicken and fish which will give you the necessary protein to increase your energy levels and make you want to get more involved in energetic and athletic activities. You will notice a difference as you will naturally be more social and doing the everyday general exercise activates required without even realizing it.

Knowing that in healthy food actually has more of a variety than junk food. Spices are a great way to add additional flavour to your food. Consider growing your own! Herbs add great flavour as well as many associated health benefits, which again, a lot of people dont realize. Instead of the usual junky fat food snacks, try salads and fruit. You will feel like a fresher you.

The first food is blueberries. Blueberries are delicious and easy to find. They may be purchased fresh or frozen from a local grocery store or from vendors at a farmer's market. They are rich in antioxidants, which do a number of things. These antioxidants help to decrease the bad cholesterol, also known as LDL, that lines artery walls and may eventually cause stroke and heart disease. And, they also help to counteract the harmful effects of "free radicals" in the body that may contribute to certain diseases/disorders such as cancer. A one-cup serving per day of blueberries is sufficient.

The second food is salmon. This may be bought fresh or frozen. And, it can be cooked so many different ways, such as broiled, baked, or grilled. When purchasing salmon, try to avoid farm-raised fish. Farm raised fish is generally considered not as safe as wild fish due to the pesticides found in the food that is fed to farm raised fish. Salmon is considered heart healthy due to the increased levels of omega-3 fatty acids. Omega-3 fatty acids are thought to help decrease triglycerides in the body, which are linked to heart disease. A 4 oz. serving of salmon twice weekly is considered enough to receive the full benefit of omega-3.

The third addition to a heart healthy diet is soy protein. Soy protein has so much to offer: vitamins, minerals, omega-3 fatty acids, and protein. It is considered a great replacement for red meats because it is low fat and high fiber. The American Heart Association recommends eating 1 oz. of soy protein a day. Soy protein is found in soybeans, soy milk, tofu, and much more.

Oatmeal is the fourth food. Good, old-fashioned oatmeal. It is simple, easy, and cheap. A half-cup serving of oatmeal is approximately 130 calories, and contains about 5 grams of fiber. Eating healthy foods is the first, and in many ways the most important step in becoming a healthy person. It's not a struggle or a hardship. It's not a moral imperative. It's not a sign of elitism. It's the simple reality that what you eat literally becomes you. You metabolize those carrots or that chicken, or that hot fudge Sunday with caramel and extra cool whip, and it becomes more of you one way or the other. Think about that the next time you reach for the bag of pork rinds.

With that in mind, it's time to take a look at what eating healthy foods entails, exactly. Because there are different standards and different thresholds for what different people consider eating healthy foods.

Take my father-in-law, for example. He's a doctor, a nephrologist. That means he works on people who have kidney problems, and from that perspective he has about thirty five years of seeing what an unhealthy diet can do to your vital organs. From his first-hand experience then, as well as the experience of his family (a family with a rich history of cancer, heart disease and diabetes) he came to the conclusion that the best thing he could do for his own diet is to cut out foods that have a high fat content.

And that's it. He'll snack on gummy bears, or load carbs morning noon and night. As long as he's not taking in high fat content, he's content. Of course, he runs six miles a day every day, so he's in better shape than most.

Me, I have a different approach. I'm not as concerned about fat content, but I'm much, much more concerned about eating stuff that's processed. Because stuff that's processed isn't actually foods; it's just chemicals combined with a few nutrients (if you're lucky) in New Jersey. I try not to touch that stuff.

So for me, eating healthy foods means eating fresh foods. If I'm having a salad I'm going to buy from a fruit stand or store that gets its produce locally, rather than getting some bagged salad that's been shipped halfway around the world. And I'll use olive oil for a dressing because olive oil actually has some beneficial fats rather than malignant fats.

But there's more. One of the keys to eating healthy foods is that too much of a good thing is still too much. Portion control and moderation are always important - obviously more so when talking about stuff that's not good for you, but still when you're talking about stuff that is good for you. If you're eating healthy foods, but you're eating 4000 calories a day of them, chances are you're not improving your overall health. If you're putting away about 2000 calories on the other hand, then you're likely on the right track.

Way#1) The first easy way to loose thatexcess weight is pretty much obvious. Getyour lazy butt off that couch and get out thereand exercise. You can't just sit there all day watchingtelevision and eating cheetos and expect somethingto happen for you. Now if you are saying, " that isn'teasy," you are really mistaken because it is. I'm notsaying you have to exercise for hours upon hoursevery single day. All that is required is a good 15minutes of exercise a day. 15 minutes at the least!Run, jog, or play a sport that you like, just do something. Honestly, if you can't commit 15 minutesa day to getting a better body, you really don't deserveone. I'm just going to say it how it is. Your body is thething keeping you mobile, so, I recommend youtreat it good and give it what it deserves. You have to livewith your body for a lifetime, so, shouldn't you havethe best one you can have?

Way#2) The second easy way to loose weightis to be more selective of what you eat. I know theice cream, hamburgers, pizza, and donuts are delicious, but damn, they're killing you. There areplenty of delicious foods out there that are extremelyappetizing that are also very healthy for you, so go findthem. Go to google and type in "health recipes." You'llfind plenty of good stuff. Furthermore, you don't even haveto give up fast food. Some of these fast food places havesome pretty healthy stuff. Just make sure you stay awayfrom the fried foods, mayonnaise, and french fries.The salads should be fine, and they're pretty tasty. Also,for those of you that don't know. A hamburger is not healthy.You wouldn't believe how many people think it is.Personally, if I am eating at a fast food place, I like tostick to the grilled menu. And I am not saying you cannever eat a slice of pizza ever again. You are allowedcheat days, so don't worry.; ) Just don't make a habit of it.

Way#3) The last easy way to loose weight is to go and get your self surgery; however, I don't recommend this.If you put all that weight on and couldn't get it off onyour own, there is a good chance that you are justgoing to blow up again. Not only that, but it isextremely expensive, not to mention that it is reallygross having people cut into your body and tearingsome of your flesh out. That is not a pretty sight, andI don't think anyone should resort to this option; however,it is an option, and if you choose to go down thispath, so be it.

However, if you combine the first two easy ways I mentioned together there should be no need foroption 3. If you stick to the regime of eating wholesomefoods and exercising at least 15 minutes a day, youshould start seeing those pounds shed prettyquickly.
